Degrees and Certifications:

Anya Cornelius-Keys

I'm excited to begin a new school year at Handley High School.  I have taught in public and private schools in Virginia and New Mexico.  This will be the start of my 12th year of teaching.

I grew up in Frederick County and graduated from James Wood High School.  I completed my Bachelor's degree and teaching certification from the University of New Mexico and will complete my Master's in Special Education this Fall.  My son will be starting second grade at John Kerr this year.  We spent the summer hiking, swimming and traveling to D.C., NY and Toronto for his first Indy car race.

I have been traveling around the world with my family since I was five years old.  I love to visit new countries and to learn about their culture, especially through the cuisine.  I've been a vegetarian for over twenty-five years and would love to have an animal rescue some day.

I look forward to meeting new students and reconnecting with past students.  Together we will support each other, so that every student feels that my classroom is a place to realize and achieve their personal goals.
