John Handley High School's Social Studies department is an eclectic group bringing innovative as well as well-established pedagogical strategies to bear to provide the best education for all of our students. 

Freshman year, we offer World History I.  For those students who love history and are seeking to begin their high school career with a challenge we offer an Honors World History I.  Sophomore year, students have the option of World History II or AP World History.  Junior year, students can take Virginia/US History or AP Virginia/US History.  Senior year, we offer VA/US Government or AP Government. 

All of our AP offerings are rigorous and filled with demanding coursework that will help to mold these young students into scholars.  Beginning in their junior year, students are able to sign up for a Social Studies elective credit, Psychology, where they will delve into the inner workings of the mind and the human psyche.
