Chorus/Group Singing
-
Current research suggests that it may not be safe to sing as a group because of droplets propelled through the air by singing. Social distancing may not protect against virus transmission while singing in groups. Mask wearing while singing is not recommended. While social distancing guidelines are in place, the chorus teacher may need to alter in-class curriculum, and can focus on creative processes, critical thinking and communication, historical and cultural influences, and innovations in the arts. Students can be encouraged to practice singing at home, to maintain practice logs or journals, and students could create recordings at home for feedback from the teacher.
When we return to school on September 8th, the Universal Practice for Chorus instruction will focus on creative processes, critical thinking and communication, historical and cultural influences, and innovations in the arts. Students will not sing as a group in-person (even with masks) until further notice. Teachers can play music and students can be encouraged to practice singing at home, to maintain practice logs or journals, and students could create recordings at home for feedback from the teacher. Any change to the Universal Practices for Fine Arts electives will be approved and communicated through the CAO.
