Acceptable Use and Guidelines
-
At Winchester Public Schools we maintain an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and Technology Use Guidelines that essentially outlines how our school district expects our students and staff to behave with technology. Our policy and guidelines defines and gives examples of what is and is not acceptable use of the computer system network.
The AUP is a first step in the framework that we use as educators to help shape what acceptable use is, to maintain the delicate balance of protecting students while providing access to the necessary digital world. Our AUP covers such areas as proper use of the network, Internet safety, filtering and monitoring, copyright and ownership of work, network security and privacy, social media, etc.
Additionally, we are required by the Virginia Department of Education and Federal E-rate requirements set forth by the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) to maintain an Acceptable Use Policy.
All staff and students at Winchester Public Schools are required to review the AUP before using the computer system network and to always use the technology like a responsible digital citizen.
