Mr. Hoffman is in his second year at Daniel Morgan and was a science and math teacher for the last sixteen years in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.  He has a B.A. degree in education from Shepherd and two Masters degrees in technology and library science.  He grew up in Vienna, Virginia and has lived in Colorado and North Carolina.  He has also traveled around the country and has visited and camped in every state in the country except Alaska and Hawaii.  Although Mr. Hoffman loves to read, his strengths are in technology, math, and science. He is looking forward to opening the Daniel Morgan Makerspace and hopes to help students with any and all requests or problems that they may have, while encouraging reading and literacy as much as possible.  

Mr. Hoffman has been a teacher for 18 years.  He has been with the Winchester City school system for two of those years.  Before becoming a media specialist, he taught math and science at Harpers Ferry Middle School in West Virginia.  He holds a Masters degree in technology integration and library science.  This background has allowed Mr. Hoffman to build and implement a Makerspace area in the Daniel Morgan library and to teach a Library Tech class using the tools in that Makerspace.

The Library Media Tech class is a curriculum that explores the available technology in the Daniel Morgan Makerspace.  Students will participate in a number of projects, challenges, and explorations both in small groups and as individuals.  There will be multiple opportunities to learn basic coding including online Hot Wheels challenges, Ozobots, Lego EV3, Turtle Paint, and Scratch.  Vinyl cutters, 3d Printers, Codeable flying drones, Keva Planks, Cubelets, Little Bits, and a homemade virtual reality sandbox will also be used as teaching tools over the course of the class.  After completing this class, students will have the tools necessary to enter the Makerspace in the library, identify areas that interest them, earn the freedom to use the equipment, and to explore their own creative path.
