    Parents should contact the enrolling school at their earliest convenience to set up a registration appointment.

What You Should Bring

  • Parents registering children to enter Virginia schools for the first time are required by law to present the following information:

    • a certified copy of the child's birth record
    • a certificate of physical examination from a physician or a health department
    • proof of residency
    • an immunization certificate containing complete dates for Hepatitis B, DPT, polio, and MMR immunizations

    Parents are urged to register the child even if all of the above have not been obtained.

    Questions concerning registration and enrollment should be addressed to the school the child will attend.

Kindergarten Registration

  • Beginning March 1, 2021, Frederick Douglass, Garland Quarles, John Kerr, and Virginia Avenue Charlotte DeHart elementary schools will kick off kindergarten registration from 9:00am-1:00pm for students who will enter kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year and have a sibling currently enrolled in Winchester Public Schools.

    Children who will be five years of age on or before September 30, 2021, must be registered for kindergarten. Registration will be held at each elementary school - Garland Quarles, Frederick Douglass, John Kerr, and Virginia Avenue Charlotte DeHart Elementary School. Families may use the School Zone Locator or call an elementary school to confirm the school zone in which the family resides.  Please share information with families to have them enroll as soon as possible.

Dual Language Immersion Program

  • Espanol icon Winchester Public Schools is pleased to offer a tuition-based, dual language immersion pre-K program.  Through an exciting, engaging, and enriching environment, four-year old students learn content in Spanish.  Following an immersion model, instruction is delivered mostly in English early in the year and 90% in Spanish after routines are established.  The class follows the WPS calendar, a 180-day schedule from mid-August to late May.  A limited number of reduced-tuition spaces are available for children of employees of Winchester Public Schools or the City of Winchester.  The regular cost for this program is $695.00 per month.  The reduced cost for WPS and City of Winchester employees is $495.00 per month.

    Parents may enroll their children for the next school year beginning in January. Rolling registration occurs all year long, as spaces are available.  Children who will be four years of age on or before September 30, 2021, may register. 

    Parents may register for the Dual Language Immersion Program at either of the below locations on Tuesday-Friday9:00am-3:00pm beginning March 1, 2021. Inquiries regarding enrollment for the Dual Language Immersion Program may be made by calling the principal or Jake Boula, Director of Elementary Instruction, at 540-667-4253, ext. 12146.

    To reserve a spot for your child, submit your completed registration form and a deposit for the first month's tuition to the school.  Reservations will be taken until the class is full.
