5th Grade Art
Grade Five Visual Arts enable students to use their knowledge and skills to synthesize information, allowing them to produce and respond to works of art. Our emphasis is on communication of personal values and beliefs in art appreciation and production. Students gain fluency in using and understanding the elements of art (color, form, line, shape, space, texture, value) in combination with the principles of design (balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, proportion, rhythm, unity, variety) as they relate to artistic expression and communication. There are four main strands of study:
- Visual Communication and Production
- Art History and Cultural Context
- Analysis, Evaluation, and Critique
- Aesthetics
6th Grade Art
Grade Six Visual Arts emphasize exploration of studio processes. Using the elements of art (color, form, line, shape, space, texture, value) in combination with the principles of design (balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, proportion, rhythm, unity, variety) as a framework, students investigate a variety of ideas for creating art. Through critical analysis and evaluation, students determine how artists convey meaning through the use of forms, media, and symbols. There are four main strands of study:
- Visual Communication and Production
- Art History and Cultural Context
- Analysis, Evaluation, and Critique
- Aesthetics
