I’m very excited for another fun-filled year of art at Daniel Morgan!
I’ll tell you a little bit of my history. I grew up in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. I went to college in Arizona and ended up living there for 9 years. I taught in Arizona for 5 years and in West Virginia for 5 years. I have worked for Daniel Morgan for several years now and am thrilled to be teaching a subject that I am passionate about. In my art class, students have more freedom of choice in their creative decisions. I am thrilled that students will be creating artwork in a more personalized way this year. Students will be encouraged to create artwork in their sketchbooks that they can more personally relate to. I teach them the foundational skills and techniques through various media and allow the students to design their art projects with those goals in mind.
Although I didn't start my teaching career in art, my passion has always been for the Visual Arts. I feel that art allows you to discover who you are and where you fit into the world. Art connects to every content area and reflects the society we live in. It is our visual history. It also serves as an outlet for expression, helps us to be better problem solvers, creative thinkers, and can also be very relaxing as well. Through art, you can discover your voice! Art enables you to see the world from many different perspectives. It is my hope that students will learn a lot about who they are and who they want to be through their production of art this year. Students will find their weaknesses and strengths and build upon their knowledge to become more successful artists with each year of instruction.
For those of you returning, I cannot wait to see you again! For those of you that are new, "Welcome" and I look forward to meeting you!
