Although membership on the Winchester Public School Board is my first venture into public service, I have been a volunteer in the local schools since the mid-1990’s, for the last six years through Literacy Volunteers at Virginia Avenue Charlotte DeHart Elementary School. That experience confirmed my belief that literacy is the foundation of all learning and kindled my interest in promoting that value through public service.
I began my career as a high school English teacher in Clay County, Tennessee but then became interested in woodworking. I worked as a craftsman and furniture-maker for a number of years and recently retired after thirty years as executive vice president of SJ Morse Company, a specialized woodwork manufacturer. My appreciation for Career and Technical Education is a natural outgrowth of my own career path.
My wife Lisa and I raised our three children in the Winchester area, and we are devoted to the bright future of this diverse community and its children. I am deeply impressed by the dedication, passion and intelligence of this school board and its professional staff, and it is a profound honor to be included among their number.
