I am honored to serve on the City of Winchester School Board. I consider it a great privilege to serve with such talented school board members. I am a graduate of John Handley High School and attended Lord Fairfax Community College with a Certificate in Information Systems. I retired from Washington Gas Company (30 years’ service), where I served as a System Planning Specialist. I am a lifelong resident of Winchester and married for 47 years with one son (also Handley Alumni), and 2 grandchildren. I have experience working with local officials and elected representatives to produce meaningful results that positively benefit our community. I have been an advocate for the health and welfare of the community and our youth, for many years. I previously served as President of the North End Citizens Association. In the past, I have served on the board of the Boys and Girls Club and was a member of The Alliance for Children Committee in the Northern Shenandoah Valley. I have a passion to work with other leaders in Winchester to improve the city as a whole and our School District in its effectiveness, for the sole purpose of making sure our children have the best education possible and to be an advocate for our students, teachers and parents.
It is especially important to me that we equip our students with skills to succeed in every endeavor of life with program career awareness through technology, professional development, and partnerships with local leaders. Children must become aware of how their education is connected to future success. I would like to see every student have clear direction, years before graduation, whether it is college or professions that require training programs. We must prepare our students for a path to financial security and to be citizens that cultivate the growth and improvement of their communities.
