  • November 2nd JKES PTO Meeting Minutes

    • Welcome and introduction

    • Ms. Levi:
      • Fun Run went well, everyone had a good day and we adjusted for weather
      • PBIS store open- kids earning points to “shop”
      • October Shindig- reward for PBIS; the kids loved it
      • House system- changing the yellow and purple house names, looking at tshirts but it is a big expense- we do have PTO funds for this and are planning to use it for teachers ($550)
      • Planning a house event in November before thanksgiving
      • Family engagement events- currently working on a calendar for parents, may do some events at the Daniel Morgan campus; movie night in December, coding night in December, literacy night, international night
      • Field trips- 3rd grade possibly to DC, 4th grade t o Jamestown in April, metrics grant is helping with small trips
      • Impact club at Handley for students who have experienced loss; they are coming to JKES once a month to mentor students

    • Treasurer’s report- as of 11/2 we have $26K, including the $550 marked for shirts
      • $2,400 from the book fair- unsure where this money goes, we think it goes directly to benefit the library
      • Fun run raised $7,200+ but we pay $2K for startup fees

    • Feedback:
      • Parent teacher conference dinner- good feedback from teachers, veggie options good
      • Fun Run

    • Planning for the year
      • Friday food bags- need to promote again, explain what to do, how to coordinate with 2 people, plan to leave food bags in the hallways so we don’t disrupt the classes
        • Discussed with Mr. Cote about covering if no one is signed up
      • Spirit Wear- ready to go, will be all online orders
      • Amazon smile- should promote for Christmas shopping
      • Square One Art- Ms. Campbell
        • She is in the process of getting things going for Christmas, this year items will be delivered to students’ homes
      • Shenandoah Valley Orthodontics- donated $600 for the dinners
      • Library volunteers- consider volunteers to help Ms. Michael; she already has a few parents who are helping a lot
      • Dance- consider in the spring if the courtyard is OK- will schedule later, consider the Friday night before Apple Blossom Week
      • 4th grade field trip- Ms. Schwizer organizing, $4500 for buses, we will check to see if we cover the whole cost or just part

      • Teacher Appreciation Week 5/1-5/5
      • Teacher gifts for Christmas- last year we helped with gift cards
      • Fun Run in the future- will consider other options and plan ahead; they charge $2k plus take 30%
