A cappella Club

Acapella Club is a largely student-led group of vocalists who want to have fun with music and give back to their school. The club works on becoming better vocal musicians, team bonding, and building community.

Art Club

Art club gives students who might not be able to take art as a class, or those who would like to learn more about art, an opportunity to express their creative side.

Asian Pacific Islander Association

The Asian Pacific Islander Association's goals are to promote and represent Asian culture and diversity at John Handley High School, be an inclusive and safe space for Asians, Pacific Islanders, and those interested in APIA, and to help members with school work and support.

Black Student Union

The Black Student Union is a club designed to promote inclusivity, including having more students of color in higher-level classes, reducing the number of absences and dropout rates here at Handley, and improving post-secondary education. The Black Student Union's goal is to improve inclusivity at Handley. We want to create this club to bring students of all spectrums together. We hope to establish a safe place for any group to share and learn to improve the community here at Handley. Throughout the school year, we will do community service projects, go to historically black college fairs, and do fantastic fundraising ideas.

Care Club

The club's mission is to unite students and create a positive environment that the entire school can benefit from by spreading kindness and showing care for our students, staff, and community. Each month, participants in the Care Club work together to carry out different activities to show care and concern for others.

DECA

DECA is the Distributive Education Clubs of America. DECA is a co-curricular that helps prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA members compete on the district, state, and international levels.

Drama Club

This club is open to any student who participates in the fall musical. It runs from November to May. Members of the club are invited to attend open dress rehearsals of various local theatrical performances. During the Spring, members participate in various activities such as reader's theater, small performances, community outreach, and possible service projects.

Earth Club: Students for Sustainability

The Earth Club is a student-led organization in which students with shared goals of a sustainable environment for all come together to create a cleaner environment, increase awareness of climate change and global warming, promote the care of our planet as a whole, and act upon our beliefs.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club

FCA Mission: To present to coaches and athletes, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church. Future Business Leaders of America

The mission of FBLA is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. The impact on student academic success is dynamic.  Being involved in FBLA can be the greatest asset for a student and their quest towards jobs/careers and college.

Helping Educate Regarding Orientation & Identity Across the Spectrum Club

HEROiS focuses on spreading awareness and tolerance towards the LGBTQ+ community within the school as well as the Winchester community. All are welcome as we make Handley a safer and more comfortable environment for all students.

Interact Club

Interact is a service fraternity. Our parent organization is the Rotary Club of Winchester. We help nonprofit organizations both locally and internationally with their projects and events. In addition, we have committees that focus on specific issues such as Relay for Life, Holder’s Heroes (anti-bullying), etc. Meetings are held weekly. Contact Mrs. Kogut for more information!

Judges Read (Library Club)

Key Club

Key Club is a service organization under the umbrella of Kiwanis International. We serve the school, the community, the nation, and the international community. Our major service projects include three blood drives in cooperation with the American Red Cross, Community Pancake Day, and work with various non-profits in the community.

Latinos Unidos

Latinos Unidos is a club open to Hispanic students and all others interested in celebrating the many Hispanic cultures at JHHS. Monthly meetings after school.
Events in school and in the community ---Celebración de Winchester!, Hispanic Heritage Month, Salsa Dancing, Cultural Showcase, and Service Learning.

Miscellanea - Creative Writing

Miscellanea is the literary magazine of John Handley High School. This site is a forum for the poetry and prose of JHHS students and teachers. Opinions expressed are those of the writer and do not reflect any sort of institutional policy. Fictional accounts are the creative work of the writer. Any resemblance to actual events or real people is purely coincidental. This club meets weekly to discuss plans for Miscellanea, the school literary magazine.

National Art Honor Society

Since 1978, the National Art Honor Society Programs support student members in their efforts to attain the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service. The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is more than just a club. Students are required to meet eligibility criteria for membership, including good grades and good standing in the school. The purpose is to Inspire and recognize those students who have shown outstanding ability in art; foster excellence and a dedicated spirit to the pursuit of art; further creative abilities and talents of the Society’s members, as well as the school’s entire student art enrollment; aid members in working toward the attainment of their highest potential in an art area; bring art to the attention of the school and community; increase awareness of art in relation to other areas of the school curriculum; and further aesthetic awareness in all aspects of the school’s total program.

National Honor Society

Scholarship. Leadership. Service. Character.
The National Honor Society, sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, is one of Handley’s most prestigious recognitions for outstanding student performance. Selection is based upon scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  Students must have clearly demonstrated outstanding qualities in these areas through service to others, a willingness to assume leadership roles, and, of course, outstanding character!

National Spanish Honor Society 

(Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica)

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and/or Portuguese. Eligible students are any high school student who has maintained an honor average in the study of Spanish for a minimum of three semesters and is in the 10th grade or higher. Students must earn a B or higher in Spanish 3 and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Scholars' Latino Initiative

High school students apply for membership to SLI at the end of their freshman year. All students selected to be members are held to high standards of academic achievement and are encouraged to pursue opportunities within and outside of the organization that develops character and leadership. In addition to college readiness opportunities, SLI promotes a personal approach to success by matching members named as “SLI Scholars” to a one-on-one mentoring relationship with undergraduate students from Shenandoah University.

Varsity Club

The Varsity Club is intended to foster school spirit and enhance the Handley boys' and girls' Athletic teams. The Varsity Club serves the members of the club, the athletic program, the student body, and the community. It provides opportunities for club members to improve leadership qualities and engage in community service. Membership is open to any student who has earned a varsity letter in athletics and is in good standing with the school and the athletic department.
