Black Student Union

The Black Student Union is a club designed to promote inclusivity, including having more students of color in higher-level classes, reducing the number of absences and dropout rates here at Handley, and improving post-secondary education. The Black Student Union's goal is to improve inclusivity at Handley. We want to create this club to bring students of all spectrums together. We hope to establish a safe place for any group to share and learn to improve the community here at Handley. Throughout the school year, we will do community service projects, go to historically black college fairs, and do fantastic fundraising ideas.

DECA

DECA is a co-curricular that helps prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Drama Club

This club is open to any student who participates in the fall musical. It runs from November to May. Members of the club are invited to attend open dress rehearsals of various local theatrical performances. During the Spring, members participate in various activities such as reader's theater, small performances, community outreach, and possible service projects.

German Club

Location: Room 2401The German Club celebrates German-speaking cultures in Winchester and around the world. Being involved means having the chance to engage with guest speakers, cultural outings, restaurant trips, film showings, trivia nights, and "Jump Into German", which allows JHHS volunteers to teach German language and culture to local elementary and middle students. Membership is open to all members of the WPS community and there are no dues. Anyone can join! You don’t have to speak Deutsch or be enrolled in German class.

Interact Club

We help nonprofit organizations both locally and internationally with their projects and events. National Art Honor Society

Since 1978, the National Art Honor Society Programs support student members in their efforts to attain the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service. The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is more than just a club. Students are required to meet eligibility criteria for membership, including good grades and good standing in the school. The purpose is to Inspire and recognize those students who have shown outstanding ability in art; foster excellence and a dedicated spirit to the pursuit of art; further creative abilities and talents of the Society’s members, as well as the school’s entire student art enrollment; aid members in working toward the attainment of their highest potential in an art area; bring art to the attention of the school and community; increase awareness of art in relation to other areas of the school curriculum; and further aesthetic awareness in all aspects of the school’s total program.

Selection is based upon scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Students must have clearly demonstrated outstanding qualities in these areas through service to others, a willingness to assume leadership roles, and, of course, outstanding character!

National Spanish Honor Society

Location: Room 2406The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and/or Portuguese. Eligible students are any high school student who has maintained an honor average in the study of Spanish for a minimum of three semesters and is in the 10th grade or higher. Students must earn a B or higher in Spanish 3 and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Scholars' Latino Initiative

All students selected to be members are held to high standards of academic achievement and are encouraged to pursue opportunities within and outside of the organization that develops character and leadership. In addition to college readiness opportunities, SLI promotes a personal approach to success by matching members named as “SLI Scholars” to a one-on-one mentoring relationship with undergraduate students from Shenandoah University.

The American Welding Society recognizes this and invites students, who want to expand their welding knowledge and take a more active role in their careers, to get more involved with welding. Active participation in an AWS Student Chapter provides the knowledge, experience, and networking needed to begin a successful career. Participation can provide AWS Student members with valuable experience for career and personal development. Through Student Chapter participation, you can learn and sharpen the skills needed for a successful career in the welding industry. Involvement in a Student Chapter will also provide you with networking opportunities. To enroll, a student needs to have an interest in welding or be enrolled in a CTE welding course.
