Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! I am honored to be the Principal of Daniel Morgan Middle School, where we strive to empower our students by embedding skills and dispositions in our curriculum to help prepare students for life beyond middle school. We place a great deal of importance on individualized academic achievement, building positive relationships, and participation in extracurricular opportunities.
At Daniel Morgan Middle School, our focus is on empowering our students to achieve academic success by providing engaging educational experiences. This year we will continue to include PBL (Project Based Learning) and personalized learning experiences tailored to student interest within our instructional practice. We are excited to house two PEDLE (Personalized Education and Digital Learning Experiences) labs, with one designated to each grade level. Though current COVID-19 restrictions limit the number of students who can safely work in groups, we are hopeful that our students will be able to utilize our labs later this year in order to foster collaboration and further develop student ownership.
In our school, an emphasis is placed on meeting our students’ physical, social, and emotional needs. We strive to help our students manage their emotions, resolve conflicts effectively, and make responsible decisions. Daniel Morgan Middle will continue to utilize the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) model to improve our school climate and student conduct.
We recognize that the student experience during the school day, whether it be in our building or virtually from home, will be unique. It is imperative that we work together as a team to ensure our students are successful and thriving. This year, we will be using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for all of our courses. There is an app called Canvas Parent that will allow you to view assignments and grades and receive alerts for student activity. We also encourage you to register for a PowerSchool parent portal, which allows you to monitor your child’s grades in all of their courses.
Please do not hesitate to contact me personally. I strive to be easily accessible to parents and value your input. I am confident that we will work together to ensure that our students have the skills and dispositions necessary to succeed both in the classroom and in life.
