Daniel Morgan Middle School was built in 1974 and named after the famous Revolutionary War Rifleman, Daniel Morgan (July 6, 1736 - July 6, 1802).  He was an American pioneer, soldier, and United States Representative from Virginia. After the Revolutionary war he settled down and built a new house near Winchester, Virginia. He named the home Saratoga after his victory in New York. Daniel Morgan's final resting place is at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, Virginia.

Originally built in 1974 for grades 6-8, Daniel Morgan Middle School has undergone numerous renovations over the years.  The most noted renovation took place in between the years 2003-04 where a separate wing was built and the original building was updated and remodeled.

Beginning the 2017-18 school year Daniel Morgan Middle School was officially split into two separate schools with grades 7 and 8 remaining in middle school and grades 5 and 6 joining the newly formed Daniel Morgan Intermediate School.  While the schools continue to share the same physical space, both schools now have their own identity and separate leadership allowing them to better provide for the students they serve.
