Mrs. Heidi Chilcott

Hello all!

My name is Heidi Chilcott and I am excited for another wonderful year at VACDES! This will be my 10th year teaching and my 3rd year here at VACDES!

Some of you may know me from teaching 1st grade for the past 2 years here at VACDES...but this year will be a new adventure as the Library Media Specialist! I am super excited about this new role; it has been a lifelong dream!  I hope to inspire our children to LOVE reading and make the library the heart of VACDES.

A little about me...

I live in West Virginia, and am a wife and mom of 3 girls. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family.  We like to play games, read together, binge-watch our favorite shows, sing, and love our many pets.

Welcome to the Library

"In the school library, learners engage with relevant information resources and digital learning opportunities in a culture of reading. School librarians initiate and elevate motivational reading initiatives by using story and personal narrative to engage learners. School librarians curate current digital and print materials and technology to provide access to high-quality reading materials that encourage learners, educators, and families to become lifelong learners and readers."(ALA, 2024).

The National Information Literacy Standards and the American Association of School Libraries: National School Library Standards are the standards that lead instruction.  Library lessons are also created to introduce, reinforce, and supplement the Virginia Standards of Learning which are taught in the classroom.

Little Judges are expected to demonstrate our VACDES expectations of SAFE, KIND, and RESPONSIBLE while in the library.
