Daily Bus Route Delays

School buses and studentsWPS has experienced some logistical challenges with bus transportation due to a labor shortage. Currently, we have 14 bus driver vacancies out of 53 total positions (25%+).

By re-working our routes, we have been able to reduce the impact, however 20% of our bus routes still require a “double run.” Double runs mean that buses complete two routes (one for their regular route, and one for the route where we have no driver), so some routes will be late on any given day.

Beginning August 25, we will have a DAILY UPDATE for families that will communicate which bus routes will be late. The link will be sent via text or email each morning at 6:45 am.

We apologize for this inconvenience. This is an unprecedented situation that is unfortunately all too common in our region with all employers. We are actively recruiting bus drivers and we are hopeful that the labor shortage will correct in the coming months. To this end, please consider promoting the job opportunity of being a bus driver within your personal network. Bus drivers for WPS work 4.5 hours per day and receive full health insurance and retirement benefits. If you or someone you know is interested, please consider applying.
