Tuskegee Airmen Visits GQES Students:
Garland Quarles Elementary Students were delighted to welcome Brig. Gen. Charles E. McGee to their school on Wednesday morning. He is one of the last living Tuskegee Airmen, a historic group of African American pilots who served during World War II. Brig. General McGee spent 27 of his 30-year military career flying in combat missions in World War II and the wars in Korea and Vietnam.
Students were treated to music and ceremonies by the Randolph Macon Academy cadets. RMA is located in Front Royal, VA. McGee was given a key to the city of Winchester by Mayor David Smith.
Students were honored with a question and answer session lead by the principal of Garland Quarles Elementary School, Joanie Hovatter. McGee presented a message of “perceive, prepare, perform, persevere” to the students.
