Welcome to Frederick Douglass Elementary School, home of the Pandas, where we're Growing Global Leaders in Language and Literacy! Frederick Douglass Elementary School is located in the heart of historic Winchester, Virginia in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. The school opened in the Fall of 1990 and serves students ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to 4th grade.
Frederick Douglass Elementary School promotes extraordinary academic achievement through literacy in two languages and global cultural awareness. At Frederick Douglass, parents have the option of having their children participate in our dual language program. From the first day of Kindergarten, participating students develop literacy in both Spanish and English, and all students develop understanding of cultures across the globe.
Our school is named for a brilliant speaker and one of the foremost leaders of the abolitionist movement. Frederick Douglass was an advisor to President Lincoln during the Civil War. After the war he fought for the rights of women and African Americans.
