Welcome to the F.D.E.S. Shelby Comstock Library

  • The goal of the Shelby Comstock Library is to serve the educational needs of our faculty and students. The environment is inviting, with many opportunities and resources for students to learn the skills needed for academic success while promoting a lifelong love of reading and learning.

The American Association of School Librarians' Standards for Student Learning is the foundation for instruction. Library lessons are also developed to introduce, reinforce, and supplement the Virginia Standards of Learning which are taught in the classroom.

What are we learning?

  • Students are working on:

    • locating and selecting books to read for enjoyment
    • locating and selecting books to read for information.
    • navigating online databases:
      • Destiny Discover

    • learning to appreciate a variety of types of literature.
    • researching topics in collaboration with classroom instruction
    • developing an understanding of cultures around the globe

  • Announcements:

Due to health concerns, the library will not be open for browsing until further notice. However, students are encouraged to check out books by putting books on hold using Destiny Discover.
