Regular School Schedule

Days that students attend school are marked on our School Calendar. 

Regular Daily Schedule: 
  • Elementary Schools: 7:50 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • Daniel Morgan Intermediate and Daniel Morgan Middle Schools: 8:25 a.m. - 3:20 p.m. *All students should arrive by 8:15 a.m.
  • John Handley High School: 8:25 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.

School Closings and Delays

Scheduled school closings are marked on our School Calendar. Schools may also close or open with a delay due to inclement weather or other unplanned events. 

Making the Call

Careful consideration goes into deciding whether students can safely be transported to school on a snowy morning. Roads and sidewalks are inspected, and weather forecasts and outdoor temperatures are monitored. Information is then reported to the Superintendent, who makes a determination about whether to cancel classes for the day. The goal is to make a decision by 5:30 a.m.

Notification

If school is delayed or closed, a message will go out to all WPS staff and families. Info will also be posted on the WPS website and social media. Notify your school with any changes in contact information so you will receive weather-related messages.

Distance Learning Plan

When school is closed due to inclement weather, the day will likely be replaced with distance learning. Please read the information below and any messages from your student’s school. *Please note: If the opportunity for a true snow day without distance learning arises, you will be notified accordingly.

Internet Access

WPS has partnered with Comcast to provide eligible families with free internet services. Contact your School Social Worker for info so you are ready for distance learning!

Scheduled early release days are marked on our School Calendar. Schools may also release early due to inclement weather or other unplanned events. 

Elementary Schools

Early Release 1:00 p.m.
Holiday Release 11:45 a.m.
Apple Blossom Early Release 1:00 p.m.
Last Day Release 11:15 a.m.

 

Intermediate & Middle Schools

Early Release 1:50 p.m.
Holiday Release 1:00 p.m.
Apple Blossom Early Release 11:45 a.m.
Last Day Release 12:15 p.m.
