We have an important change to the WPS calendar for 2023-2024. On Tuesday, March 5, the Virginia Presidential Primary Election will take place, and three of our schools will serve as voting sites.
3rd and 4th grade students at Frederick Douglass Elementary School, Virginia Avenue Charlotte DeHart Elementary School, and John Kerr Elementary School will attend school virtually via Google Meet on Tuesday, March 5.
K-2nd grade students at Frederick Douglass Elementary School, Virginia Avenue Charlotte DeHart Elementary School, and John Kerr Elementary School will have paper packets to complete at home on March 5.
Although we have remained fully open in past years during primary elections, larger crowds than usual are expected this year. Because it is a presidential election year, and we are seeing heightened political tension across the country, our local election officials are expecting high participation from voters and have recommended that we switch to virtual instruction.
We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. We are working with School Nutrition and will have more details about meals as March 5 approaches. You will also receive further communication from your Principal and your student’s classroom teacher with details on the virtual learning schedule and expectations. We will ensure our rigorous academic expectations are upheld for our students attending virtually.
Please note: This change only applies to students at Frederick Douglass Elementary School, John Kerr Elementary School, and Virginia Avenue Charlotte DeHart Elementary School because these schools serve as voting sites. All other WPS students will attend school in person on March 5.
