Project SEARCH Recognition

Project Search- Seeing it Through No Matter What

On August 7, 2020 nine students graduated from the Project Search program.  The always heart-warming and proud moment almost did not happen this year due to Covid-19 concerns.  Teachers, students and hospital staff never stopped working towards a graduation ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of our students.  This was the third class to complete the program.

Project Search is a collaboration between Valley Health and the following community partners:  Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), NW Works, Frederick County Public Schools, and Winchester Public Schools.  Students with developmental disabilities work in hospital departments and learn work skills, build confidence, and prepare for employment out in the community.

Students participating in the program normally complete a three internship rotation, but this year they were only able to complete two internships.  Valley Health departments participating in the program include:

Chuck Ashby, Project Search instructor, Frederick County Public Schools stated “This experience would not be nearly as successful without the support of Valley Health staff.  They take these students under their wing and help them in so many ways.  I thank everyone who worked with the kids this year!”
