Congratulations to John Handley High School student Alice Gonzales Lamas for receiving a special award at the 62nd Shenandoah Valley Regional Science and Engineering Fair held virtually through James Madison University on March 21st and 22nd. Alice won a special award in the microbiology category with her project titled "Effectiveness of Commercial and Household Disinfectants on CFUs of Escherchia.coli." This special award was sponsored by the Virginia Lakes and Watershed Association.
The Shenandoah Regional Science and Engineering Fair (SVRSEF), serves students from 9 Counties, 3 Cities, and overall 98 schools and homeschooled students throughout the Shenandoah Valley. From Frederick down to Rockbridge County, nearly 45,000 students have the opportunity to participate in the SVRSEF. The Fair is held at and supported by James Madison University, with judges drawn from faculty at JMU, Merck and surrounding universities, colleges, and organizations.
