I am Erin Kirkland, and I am happy to be serving the students of both John Kerr Elementary and Garland Quarles Elementary Schools as the School Psychologist. Prior to joining the WPS family, I spent 13 years as a School Psychologist and an administrator with Loudoun County Public Schools and four years as a School Psychologist with Frederick County Public Schools. I began my career in clinical psychology but soon made the change to school psychology because I love children and I love education so it was a natural fit. My professional interest areas are learning disabilities (e.g. Dyslexia), executive functioning, childhood anxiety, and mindfulness. I am a nationally certified school psychologist, a nationally certified Restorative Practices facilitator, a PREPaRE-trained crisis responder, and am part of the adjunct faculty with Shenandoah University.
I was born and raised in Southwestern PA, but my school psychology internship brought me to Virginia. Having met my husband during that time, I happily stayed. We have two children, Julianna and Ren, who are future Handley graduates. I am a die hard Steelers fan and a Harry Potter nerd. When I am not running around after my children, I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, scrapbooking, and binge-watching Netflix.
I look forward to working with your children and helping them become the best learners they can be!
