After graduating from John Handley High School I earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in early childhood education from James Madison University. I returned to the Winchester area and have been teaching WPS students for 23 years. Although I have taught first and third grade, a majority has been first grade as I have a passion for teaching students how to read. I am currently helping to develop the Personalized Early Accelerated Program (PEAP) at John Kerr Elementary school, where we teach multi-age students between the ages of 4-8 based on their readiness levels instead of grade level.
I was recently honored by receiving the Stewart Bell Jr. Excellence in Teaching Award during the 2019 convocation. Feeling very fortunate to have worked with a plethora of knowledgeable and invested team members who share my passion, I can truly say teaching is more of a hobby than a job. “Love what you do, do what you love.”
Other ways I enjoy spending time include reading, shopping, flower gardening, listening to music, and hanging out with my family and friends.
