Clubs & Activities at FDES

  • At Frederick Douglass Elementary School we believe that providing students the opportunity to participate in clubs and activities is incredibly important.  Joining one or more of our exciting clubs or activities gives students many opportunities including:  making new friends, building respect and learning teamwork, gaining self-confidence, relieving stress, learning real-world skills, developing time management skills, and just having fun while you learn!

    After school enrichment clubs and activities are held throughout the school year on a seasonal basis.  Enrichment activities will vary.  Previous club offerings have included Spanish Club, Noetic Math, Soccer Steps, Builders Club, Book Club, Lego League Jr., Running Club, Wrestling, and many more.

    Club require prior registration and are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Some clubs are by invitation only.

  • Arts Academy

    The Creative Arts Club is open to students in grades 2nd, 3rd, and 4th each year. Casting has been completed for this year's production.  Members are rehearsing for the bilingual production of The Lion King.  The Creative Arts Club meets after school on Thursdays; however, rehearsal schedules vary according to each assigned role.  Please see the Rehearsal Schedule webpage for more information.  Transportation is NOT available for this club.  The Lion King will be performed on Sunday, March 1st with Cast A at 3PM and on Monday, March 2nd with Cast B at 8:30AM and 6:30PM in the FDES Gym.  Please contact Mrs. Westman or Mrs. Mathias for more information.

    Bedtime Math Crazy 8s Club

    Bedtime Math's Crazy 8s club is a new after school math club where students build stuff, run and jump, make music, and more.  This Math Club is by invitation ONLY.  Bedtime Math Crazy 8s Club will meet on Thursdays from 2:30-4PM starting October 10th and ending November 21st.  Please contact Ms. Barr for more information.

  • Lego League

    If you love Legos and are committed to deep thinking and creative problem solving with a team, this club is for you.  Lego League is by invitation ONLY.  Lego League will meet from 2:30-4PM on the following Tuesdays: 10/8, 10, 22, 10/29, 11/12, 11/19.  Please contact Ms. Barr or Ms. Rosencrance for more information.

  • Panda Running Club

    The Panda Running Club meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:10-7:30AM, rain or shine from September 17th through November 26th.  The club is open to any student in K-4th grade.  Students need to wear tennis shoes or athletic shoes.  Students should be dropped off at the car rider line and enter through the front entrance.   Contact Mrs. Homan or Mrs. Estes for more information.

    Spanish Club

    Students in this club will learn new Spanish vocabulary, write stories in Spanish, and experience the culture of Spanish speaking countries.   Spanish Club is for students is open to all students in grades K through 4th.  Spanish Club for 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades will meet from 2:30-4PM on the following Tuesdays: 10/8, 10/22, 10/29, 11/12, and 11/19.  Spanish Club for K and 1st graders will meet from 2:30-4PM on the following Thursdays: 10/10, 10/24, 10/31, 11/7, 11/14, and 11/21.
