Meals are free for all students!

The staff of the Food and Nutrition Department is dedicated to providing nutritious meals to the students of Winchester Public Schools. We believe that well-nourished children go “hand in hand” with success in their academic studies.

All of our schools participate in the National School Lunch Program, which mandates nutritional requirements. All meals, foods, and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements, which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines (http://www.usda.gov/). Our menu items
must meet rigorous standards for low sodium, low fat, 100% whole grain-rich, age-specific calorie counts, and zero trans-fat. Menus are planned around fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products. The special needs of children with food allergies and sometimes other health issues are also part of the equation. 

In one school year, our Food and Nutrition Department employees serve approximately 215,171 meals (Breakfast and Lunch):

  • Breakfast meals served per school year – 60,240
  • Lunch meals served per school year - 154,931

Parents/Guardians who would like to make requests or ask questions concerning their child’s food choices may contact the Food Service Coordinator at (540)557-4258 ext. 16125.

Remember, breakfast is essential to success in the classroom! Make the most of your child's morning with the WPS School Breakfast Program. Breakfast is served 20 minutes before school begins at all WPS schools.

The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation. The completed AD-3027 form or letter must be submitted to USDA by:
