JHHS Student Chapter of the American Welding Society

Location: Room 101Students are the future of the welding industry. The American Welding Society recognizes this. That is why we invite students, wanting to expand their welding knowledge and take a more active role in their careers, to get more involved with welding. Active participation in an AWS Student Chapter provides the knowledge, and networking needed to begin a successful career. Participation in a Student Chapter can provide AWS Student Members valuable experience for career and personal development.

National French Honor Society (Société Honoraire de Français)

Location:Membership in the Societe Honoraire Francaise is a national society for scholars of French and the Francophone culture and who have proven scholarship with coursework French I-IV/AP and in promoting service in the community using their understanding of the French culture and linguistic challenges in the target language. These inductees must share their understanding of the French culture in a variety of ways: teaching and tutoring in French in primary and secondary levels, being involved in a virtual and physical exchange, collaborating, and connecting to the community at large in a variety of projects within the community of Winchester.

National Honor Society
Scholarship. Leadership. Service. Character.
The National Honor Society, sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, is one of Handley’s most prestigious recognitions for outstanding student performance.
Selection is based upon scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Students must have clearly demonstrated outstanding qualities in these areas through service to others, a willingness to assume leadership roles, and, of course, outstanding character!

National Spanish Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica)

Location: Room 2406The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and/or Portuguese. Eligible students are any high school student who has maintained an honor average in the study of Spanish for a minimum of three semesters and is in the 10th grade or higher. Students must earn a B or higher in Spanish 3 and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Scholars' Latino Initiative

Location: Room 1125High school students apply for membership to SLI at the end of their freshman year. All students selected to be members are held to high standards of academic achievement and are encouraged to pursue opportunities within and outside of the organization that develops character and leadership. In addition to college readiness opportunities, SLI promotes a personal approach to success by matching members named as “SLI Scholars” to a one-on-one mentoring relationship with undergraduate students from Shenandoah University.
