Welcome to 5th Grade Counseling

  • It is so nice to meet you!

I am Elizabeth Cranford, DMIS school counselor. I graduated in 2002 from Warren County High School in Front Royal, so although I am not born and raised in Winchester, I definitely consider myself a local. I went on to receive my Bachelor's of Science in Psychology in 2006 from the University of Mary Washington. After graduating with my B.S., I became a preschool teacher. I worked in this role for six awesome years, but after a while, I decided I wanted to have a broader impact on students. I decided I could do this as a school counselor! So I headed to graduate school and attended James Madison University. While at JMU I had the opportunity to work at several schools through my graduate assistantship in the Professor in Residence program, my practicum, and counseling internship experiences.  Since graduating with my Masters in Education in School Counseling from JMU I have worked as a school counselor in an elementary school, middle school, and intermediate school, as well as becoming a National Board Certified Counselor. I am a life-long learner and am heading back to school for my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Cappella University, as well as working on becoming a Virginia licensed professional counselor (LPC).

I love what I do - helping kids navigate this world and helping remove any barriers getting in their way as they work to achieve their personal and professional dreams. Early in my career I came across this quote: "It's a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together." I truly believe that is exactly what I have in my career as a school counselor!

It is of great importance to me to involve parents, families, staff, students, and community members in the school counseling program so that we, as an educational community, can work together to engage all students in the learning process. Please know you are always welcome to reach out to me if I can assist in any way. My contact information is below:
