About Mr. Uhlir
Mr. Uhlir has been a part of Winchester Public Schools since the Fall of 2001. He was the system wide accompanist for Winchester Public Schools from 2001-2012, and became the choral director at Daniel Morgan Middle School in 2013. Mr. Uhlir is also and active "gigging" musician in the Northern Virginia Area, and is currently the Organist and accompanist at First United Methodist Church in Winchester, Virginia, and also the accompanist for the City Choir of Washington under the direction of Grammy Award winning Director Robert Shafer. Mr. Uhlir also accompanies many distrct and all county choir events, as he finds a lot of personal growth in his own choral direction by working and collaborating with major music educators in the region. Mr. Uhlir loves teaching the students at Daniel Morgan Middle School and helping them to find and develop the only instrument they will always have, their own personal voice.
In his personal life, Mr. Uhlir has a spouse, and two dogs, a yellow lab named Miller, and a Basset Hound named Magnolia. For fun, Mr. Uhlir likes going to or performing in concerts, seeing plays, and going to museums. He is also an avid hiker and fisherman and will frequently going hiking deep into the mountains- even on snow days. He also enjoys doing various things with his friends.
A broad synopsis of Mr. Uhlir's musical life: (Just a few of the major things)
1990-1994- Music Performance at Shenandoah University
1994-1995- One year of overseas study at the Academy of Musical Arts in Prague, Czech Republic
1996-2000- Musician in the United States Marine Corps Field Band Program at Quantico, Virginia
2000-2010- Accompanist at Shenandoah University. Accompanist for the Grammy Award Winning Shenandoah Conservatory and Chamber Choirs
2001- Began Accompanying at Handley High School, later becoming the first full time accompanist for Winchester Public Schools.
2001-2012- Music Director at Wildwood Baptist Church
2003-2011- Accompanist Winchester Musica Viva
2005- Accompanist for the Opera "Regina" at the Kennedy Center, where I got to work with Patti Lupone.
2009- Music Director for Winchester Medical Center Follies
2013- present- Promoted to choral director at Daniel Morgan Middle School. Became the organist and accompanist at First Church in downtown Winchester, and also began subbing for the City Choir of Washington, later becoming the ensembles accompanist.
2014- present- DMMS Choirs at District Assessment have received superior ratings. District Assessment is an event in which 4 judges rate a choir's performance and sight reading based on the Standards of Music for chorus.
2016- DMMS was made a "Blue Ribbon school" as both of the top DMMS musical ensembles (chorus and band) received superior ratings, and fufilled the requirements needed to acquire the honor.
