PERSONAL AND/OR EMERGENCY LEAVE

 

A.        Purpose

 

            Personal and/or emergency leave with pay shall be granted to all employees who are ineligible for annual leave but who work four (4) or more hours per day in a given job or are categorized as half-time.  The intent of the School Board is to provide a reasonable opportunity for such employees to be absent from work to take care of personal business not covered under the sick leave plan or other legitimate reasons necessitating absence from work.  Personal and/or emergency leave shall be available in one-half day or full-day increments only.

 

            B.         Approval for Use of Leave

 

            Eligible employees shall request personal leave through their immediate supervisor. Personal leave shall not be used to extend a holiday or other leave except under circumstances beyond the employee’s control, subject to the Superintendent’s review and approval.  In such cases, reasons for the leave request must be provided.  Except in emergencies, employees shall request personal leave in advance with a reasonable notice.

 

C.         Personal and/or Emergency Leave Allocation

 

Eligible licensed personnel shall be allocated three (3) personal leave days per year.  Eligible licensed personnel who work less than full-time shall be given personal leave at a rate equivalent to three (3) part-time days per year. Under no circumstances shall an employee be eligible to take more than three (3) days in any one contract year, and there is no accrual of personal and/or emergency leave days. Remaining  personal and/or emergency leave will be transferred to accumulated sick leave at the end of each fiscal year.

           

            Eligible support personnel shall be allocated two (2) personal leave days per contract year. Under no circumstances shall an employee be eligible to take more than two (2) days in any one contract year, and there is no accrual of personal and/or emergency leave days.  Remaining  personal and/or emergency leave will be transferred to accumulated sick leave at the end of each fiscal year.
